We went to Poppa Lyons farm and learnt about lots of the animals he has there. Here is the information we learnt about PIGS!
These black pigs are called 'Large Blacks' or 'Devon' pigs.
A boy or male pig is called a Boar.
A girl or female pig is called a sow.
A baby pig is called a piglet.
Sows can have up to 14 piglets.
Pigs don't sweat so when they get hot they push over the water trough and make a mad bath to keep cool!
If we put our hands through the bars while the pigs are eating, they could have eaten our fingers because pigs eat everything!
We enjoyed meeting the Devon Pigs but think they are stinky!
SUPER SEVENS what a fantastic learning opportunity to visit Poppa's farm. I am so pleased you know the proper names for a male, female and baby pig. What an amazing piece of information about pigs not sweating and pushing over the water trough so they can have a mud bath to keep them cool. Mrs Edwards has always wanted to have a kuni kuni pig for a pet. I think I will have to wait till I'm a grown up and own a little farm. Will you come and visit me???
